Monastery without a monastery

A newly built monastery, recreated from models from the 12th century. Built with the same materials and techniques as in the Middle Ages. Even the Christian wall paintings, the glass art, everything copied and at the same time updated.
Eight years of construction, over one million euros in donations and grants. Attention to detail and real craftsmanship. The new medieval monastery is part of a historical experience space in Lübeck (DE) in the Kücknitz district. It also includes a stave church with ceiling paintings based on the old painting technique from Zillis (Graubünden Switzerland).
Yes. One is quite amazed at what will and interest bring forth!
At the same time, there remains a bitter aftertaste: because just a few meters next to the site, another church has quietly and without a sound ended its services. Like other parishes in the area: reason given: no money. No interest.
Here, though: history enthusiasts. Even a Beguine in habit is running around happily! The life of Christian women inspires her. Saint Elisabeth of Thüringen is even her role model. The first chair of the board of trustees, Mr. Tank, emphasizes, „that this is nothing religious“. Nevertheless, already 200 school classes were able to admire the buildings this year. A monastery to marvel at, with no Christian life behind it.
